The Save Bessarabia Union Party (USB) will not only run in elections on the ticket of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians in the snap parliamentary elections of July 11, but will join AUR and will be absorbed by this. USB will no longer exist as a distinct entity. “From statutory and legal viewpoints, the procedures will be those of merger by absorption, but there is now no time for convening a congress and the inherent stages of the process will be thus covered after this year’s snap parliamentary elections,” the party noted in a press release that is quoted by IPN.
USB noted that AUR is a solid party with 44 MPs in Bucharest and is in the ascendant, being the third political party in Romania, outstripping considerably Save Romania Union and coming closer to the National Liberal Party. “AUR will become the main or only ruling party in Romania after the elections of 2024. We are AUR,” runs the press release.
In another statement, Senator Claudiu Târziu, AUR co-president, expressed his confidence that AUR will win at least 10% of the vote in the snap parliamentary elections of July 11. “AUR inspires the voters with hope that it can score a victory and, what is more important, that it can do good things for the Moldovan citizens. None of the other unionist parties have such trump cards. It is easy to make the choice,” wrote the Romanian senator.
“AUR appeared in the Republic of Moldova with the goal of uniting the unionists and of better governing all the citizens. Since it emerged, AUR has called for unity. As the snap parliamentary elections were set in the Romanian state beyond the Prut, AUR more intensely repeated its invitations to unity. Several older political parties realized that the unity is the unionists’ chance and joined the AUR project, becoming AUR. Others haven’t made up their mind yet. But they do not have much time left.”
