Saturday fireworks show ended with tons of litter and tens of grass spaces ruined
The Rascani district mayor, Reghina Apostolov, expressed her disapproval of the authorities’ decision to organise a fireworks show on Saturday July 7, on the Miron Costin square, an area neighbouring the “Sons of the Motherland” Memorial.
During the City Hall operational meeting, on Monday, July 9, Apostolov mentioned that as a result of the Fireworks Festival, numerous green areas were destroyed, while more than 10 tons of litter, including 15 thousand beer bottles, were accumulated across the area. According to her, the caused damage could rise to several thousands of lei, due to the fact that the citizens of the city “are not ready to have an adequate behaviour at such events.”
According to the cited source, the Sons of the Motherland” Memorial is currently the most beautiful place in the area, while the purpose of this memorial does not correspond with the aim of such events.
Although the City Hall authorised the event, Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca explained that in fact the central authorities chose this location for the organisation of this event and they should be the addressee of complaints made by the district mayor’s office. Although Apostolov believes that the National Square would have been a better location to host such events, Dorin Chirtoaca opposes such ideas, due to the great significance of this square.
The fireworks festival, organised in Chisinau, took place to celebrate the new 7 wonders of the world
