Sarata Galbena village of Hancesti district has its own local radio station that was launched within the Transparency Week. The radio station will transmit three times a week through the system of loudspeakers installed in the village. It will broadcast mainly news, interviews and programs on issues of public interest that will contribute to the efficient informing of the villagers. The residents could already listen to the first issue of the program “Village that speaks”, IPN reports.
In the launch of the radio station, mayor of Sarata Galbena Stefan Vlas said that many nice things were done in the community, but nothing would have been possible without the people’s support. “That’s why the entire staff of the mayor’s office is making effort to increase the people’s confidence in the mayor’s offices. This is possible only through transparency and communication,” he stated.
“The people’s participation in decisions affecting their life and communities is key to democracy at local level. The national consultations on the Future Moldova Wants showed that people want to be co-producers of their country’s development. We hope the initiatives organized during the Transparency Week will contribute to a culture of trust, transparency and fairness between public institutions and people,” said Nicola Harrington - Buhay, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Moldova.
The Transparency Week held on October 13-19 forms part of the European Local Democracy Week that aims to promote knowledge of local democracy and democratic participation at local level. On this occasion, 30 mayor’s offices from 17 districts of the country will be carrying out over 150 activities aimed at ensuring transparency in the decision-making process.
The events are staged under the auspices of the State Chancellery with the support of the Joint Integrated Local Development Program that is implemented by UNDP and UN Women with the financial support of the Government of Denmark.
