Sappers discover 250 kg bomb in Stefan Voda district

The National Army sappers this year have detonated 33 explosive devices, including a plane bomb weighting 250 kg, Info-Prim Neo reports, making reference to the Ministry of Defence. The bomb was found in a field near Popeasca village in Stefan Voda district. The sappers also discovered three artillery shells. The combat engineers established that the bomb was made in Germany and has been in the ground since the Second World War. As it was rather dangerous to transport the explosive devices, the sappers decided to destroy them at the scene. The sappers also found 26 explosive devices near Orac village in Leova district. The sappers of the Cahul-based Brigade “Dacia” identified 76 mm to 100 mm calibre artillery shells and missiles. According to lieutenant colonel Mihail Semionov, the residents of the village discovered the remnants of a store of German munitions that remained since the Second World War. Another three explosives were found in Leuntea village in Causeni district.
