Sanitation works in Chisinau resumed after three days -- Update

The sanitation works in the municipality of Chisinau were resumed three days after stopped owing to the meteorological conditions, the head of the Division for Housing and Public Amenities, Petru Gontea, said at Monday’s meeting of the City Hall, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Last week, the municipal services liquidated 27 unauthorized garbage dumps. Tudor Maniv, the head of “Autosalubritate” division, said that before Easter the municipal authorities will purchase 500 garbage containers. The existing containers will be repaired and painted.
According to Chisinau interim Mayor Vlad Cotet, the move is part of a broader project to replace the bins across the city. The cost of one container ranges from 1,000 to 3,000 lei.
Eliferii Haruta, the director of the Green Spaces Administration Association, said that the first stage of sanitation works on the riverbed of the Bac was completed. The second stage will be carried out early in April.
At the same meeting, it was said that the disposing of refuse at the Tsyntsareni landfill has been resumed. The access to the area had been blocked by the inhabitants of a nearby community, who lamented the smell and the health threats posed by the landfill, which is believed to have poisoned their water wells. The protesters drafted a petition, seeking, among other, constant water supply from an aqueduct. The Chisinau authorities pledged 4 million lei to build the requested water pipe.
