Expanding the energy autonomy of public institutions through the use of biomass power plants was one of the topics raised by President Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean in discussions with local public authorities in the security zone. Thus, the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, together with the involved mayor’s offices, is to prepare projects to ensure energy autonomy for schools, kindergartens, mayor’s offices and other public institutions, IPN reports.
At the same time, according to Maia Sandu, the up-to-date needs of citizens in the context of the current crisis were discussed. "I understood that support is also needed in the form of wood, pellets. More generators are needed," said Maia Sandu.
According to Dorin Recean, the Transnistrian schools controlled by the constitutional authorities returned to classes on Thursday, but these are held online.
The officials also referred to the difficulty in communicating with Tiraspol.
"As soon as the problem appeared, we offered those on the left bank of the Nistru to buy gas. We can organize gas purchases for them because they cannot do it from a technical point of view. We were refused," said Premier Recean.
The Government in Chisinau sent a message of support to the citizens on both banks of the Nistru, especially those on the left bank of the river, assuring them that they will receive help quickly and that they will not be abandoned.
As for Russia’s accusations regarding the energy crisis, the Moldovan authorities reaffirmed that the Republic of Moldova has a contract with Gazprom, valid until 2026 and that Gazprom's unilateral decision to stop the supply of natural gas led to the current crisis.
