The preliminary lab results indicated that salmonella caused the poisoning of 17 students of the Chisinau Lyceum “Dante Alighieri” of the 33 persons who suffered food poisoning at a restaurant. Contacted by IPN, head of the press service of the Chisinau Public Health Center Veronica Istrati said the bacterium was detected in raw chicken meat of the restaurant’s store.
The whole quantity of meat was confiscated immediately after the case of mass food poisoning was reported. “A contravention report was drawn up and the restaurant’s administration will have to pay a fine,” stated Veronica Istrati.
According to her, the last hospitalized student was discharged today. “A number of 33 persons suffered food poisoning there. Three of these didn’t go to see a doctor. Two young men received treatment at home. None of these was in a serious state. The Christmas party involved 46 students and two teachers,” said Veronica Istrati.
Shortly after the incident, the restaurant was closed on a temporary basis. The law enforcement bodies are also examining the case.
