Sales on market of TV services provided against payment, on a rise

The total volume of sales, as well as the number of subscribers on the market of television services provided against payment, through cable and IP TV networks, registered an increase in the first semester of this year. The volume of sales of TV services against payment increased, compared to the same period of 2018, by 5% and amounted to 82.6 million lei. The total number of subscribers increased, compared to the end of 2018, by 10.2 thousand and made up 339.9 thousand, IPN reports.

The National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI) mentions that the increase in revenues from the sale of TV services against payment was determined by the increase in sales carried out by providers operating the IP TV networks. The volume of these sales increased by 13.6%. At the same time, the sales operated by the cable network providers decreased by 3.2%. Revenues obtained from the sale of services through MMDS technology decreased by 29.1%.

According to data submitted to ANRCETI by 81 active providers of paid TV services, as of June 30, 2019, 50.4% of the total number of subscribers used IP TV networks, 49.5% used cable TV networks, and 0.1% - MMDS technology.

In the first half of the year, the share of subscribers receiving the digital TV signal reached 66.6%, and the share of those receiving the analogue signal made up 33.4%.

The average monthly income per subscriber (ARPU) for paid TV services increased by 2.1% and constituted 41.3 lei.

At the end of the first semester of this year, the largest providers of paid TV services, according to the turnover, had the following market shares: Moldtelecom - 35%, Sun Communications - 16.4%, TV BOX - 14, 8%. The cumulative market share of the other suppliers was of 33.8%.
