The sales of grapevine cuttings this year will be by about 15% lower owing to the snow that fell too early last year. Grapevine cutting producer from Straseni Vasile Vutcarau has told IPN that so far this year he has sold 60% of the cuttings, as opposed to 85-90% the previous years. He said the sales may rise as the grapevine cuttings are also bought in April and May, IPN reports.
According to Vasile Vutcarau, the frost struck too early last autumn and the people didn’t manage to plow the land.
Making reference to the Agriculture Ministry’s data, the producer said that 2,100 hectares were planted with grapevine last year. This year there will be planted about 1,500 hectares as the people didn’t prepare the land and also do not have money.
Vasile Vutcarau said the price of grapevine cuttings remained the same as last year. The cuttings are sold for 15-20 lei apiece.
