Sales from fixed-line phone services continue to decline

The incomes from the sales of fixed-line phone services in January – September decreased by 15.6% compared with the corresponding period last year, to 988.6 million lei. The volume of traffic in fixed-line phone networks to international networks also diminished, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué of the national ICT regulator (ANRCETI), the two indicators declined in the wake of an insignificant decrease in the number of subscribers to fixed-line phone services. The rise is exclusively due to the alternative fixed-line phone providers that connected over 15,600 new clients to their network. The subscribers of the national telecoms carrier SA Moldtelecom fell by over 3,300 in number.

On October 1, 2013, SA Moldtelecom had over 1.1 million subscribers, while the alternative providers – 98,000. The penetration rate of fixed-line phone services per 100 residents was 34.2%.

The revenues earned by SA Moldtelecom from sales of fixed-line phone services decreased by 16.7% on the first nine months of 2012, to 949.6 million lei. At the same time, the aggregate revenues of the alternative fixed-line phone providers rose by 26.3% to about 39 million lei.

On October 1, the market share of SA Moldtelecom by revenues was 95.1%, down 2.3%, while of the alternative providers increased by 2.3% to 4.9%.
