Imports of diesel fuel last year fell by 11.7% from a year before to 309,200 tonnes, while retail sales declined by 14.3% to 183,500 tonnes, shows a report by the National Agency for Energy Regulation. The Agency says the decline in diesel fuel imports stemmed from the lower demand for this type of fuel owing to the economic and financial crisis on the one hand and the donation of diesel oil made by Russia to Moldova last year on the other hand. The price of gasoline in 2009 was modified five times, while of diesel oil and liquified petroleum gas – two times. The average selling price of gasoline rose from 8.97 lei to 11.88 lei a liter, of diesel oil – from 10.27 lei to 10.57 lei a liter, while of liquified petroleum gas – from 4.97 lei to 5.97 lei a liter. The rises were determined by the higher prices on the world oil markets and the 50% increase in excises on gasoline and diesel oil.
