Sale of fast food near education institutions will be banned

The sale of food products with an increased content of nutrients will be banned near schools and kindergartens, under a bill approved by the Government on Wednesday. The production and sale of such products will be banned within 100 meters of the education institutions, while the involved producers or traders will be obliged to abandon selling fast food or to change the place, said Minister of Health Andrei Usatii. According to him, the given products pose an increased risk to children and lead to a rise in the number of persons who suffer from diabetes and obesity. The legal entities that will not obey the given provisions will be fined 2 000-3 000 lei, while the private individuals - 200-400 lei. The bill was drafted by Liberal MPs Valeriu Munteanu and Vadim Cojocaru and is to be passed in Parliament.
