Sale of dairy products on streets will be banned
People who sell dairy products on streets near the Central Market in Chisinau will be offered places at the market within 2-3 days. A decision in this regard was taken during the meeting of municipal services on Monday, March 14, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca visited the Central Market on Sunday and was distressed by dairy product vendors who occupied both the sidewalk and the road. He asked the market administration to install some stands for them within the market.
He stressed that similar measures should be taken by all markets in Chisinau. He dismissed the idea of ousting these people, saying they only wanted to sell their products and for many, this was their only source of income.
Workers of the City Sanitary Department were against this proposal, as stands didn’t correspond to sanitary standards, while there were free places in specialized halls in the market. Nevertheless, the Mayor defended the street vendors. He explained that although there were indeed free places, these were less visible and thus detrimental to sales. He added that stands were still better then streets.
According to the City Hall, there are 43 markets in Chisinau.
