The Ministry of the Interior next year plans to increase the salaries of police officers by 30%. Such a provision will be included in the 2014 state budget. The announcement was made by Minister of the Interior Dorin Recean in the program “Politica” on TV7 channel, IPN reports.
According to the minister, now police officers’ pays range from 3,200 lei to 15,000 lei, depending on the rank, responsibilities and work experience. These salaries do not cover the needs and the risk degree faced by the policemen and their families.
Dorin Recean said that there are over 1,000 job vacancies in the police even if considerable effort has been made this summer to fill them. It became harder to recruit new employees following the adoption and implementation of legislation concerning the prevention of corruption.
As to the reform done in the police, the minister said that the police officers are now not required to identify the culprits and obtain admission of guilt by any methods.
Dorin Recean said the police was separated from the political sphere, while April 7, 2009 is a point of reference as then the authorities ordered the police not to intervene when it was possible to avoid the altercations. When the police ultimately intervened, they resorted to inhuman treatment. An objective for the near future is to shorten the response time of the police to at most 15 minutes in every corner of the country.
