The Ministry of Culture presented a draft Government decision on the liquidation of the state-owned company S.A. “Moldcinema” for public debates. The Ministry argued that among the main responsibilities of the company are to make and distribute films, to screen films, etc. However, S.A. ”Moldcinema” only leases out areas in the buildings that are not used in the technological process. This is an activity of a liberalized area and a market where the intervention of the state, especially the Ministry of Culture, is not necessary, IPN reports.

In accordance with the financial reports, the company’s revenues/profit during the last few years declined. The revenues for 2012 totaled 685,300 lei, while in 2016 these came to only 3,360 lei and the company can thus go bankrupt.

To prevent such a situation and the possible loss of the company’s property, it is suggested liquidating S.A. “Moldcinema” and transferring the buildings managed by it to the National Cinematography Center.
