The public utility SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” (ACC) on December 12 celebrates 125 years of the foundation. The supplier now delivers a volume of water that is 60 times larger than the 2,000 cubic meters of water a day supplied when the first water pipeline in Chisinau was put into operation. During the next years, the company aims to continue to provide water supply and sewerage services of a high quality for the community, in accordance with the international standards, IPN reports.
The anniversary forum staged by “Apa-Canal Chisinau” brought together representatives of similar companies from Romania and Ukraine, experts and partners and members of local and foreign financial-banking institutions. ACC director general Veronica Herta said that during the 125 years, thousands of people worked at the company to ensure high-quality services for consumers. “We want each citizen, resident or visitor of the capital city to realize that the intervention teams of “Apa-Canal Chisinau” work in very difficult conditions, round-the-clock, notwithstanding the bad weather, and execute the required works,” she stated.
According to Veronica Herta, the last few years were marked by technological regeneration and a change in the consumers’ character. The company outfitted the Nistru water station, which is the main source of water for the city, and the wastewater treatment station in Chisinau with reserve sources of energy. ACC manages about 2,000 km of water pipes and approximately 1,000 km of sewer pipes. “The wear degree of the pipes is regrettably rather high. A special role in the development of the company is played by the cooperation with European financial institutions. A remarkable example in this regard is the investment project implemented together with the EBRD and EIB, to the total value of €62.8 million, €14 million of which is a grant” said the director.
In the immediate period, the company plans to extend the service provision area and to identify and implement the most advantageous technologies, according to the cost-efficiency criteria, by attracting financing from outside the country for carrying out researches and concrete tasks. Another objective is to exchange experience with different specialists and companies, both from Moldova and abroad. Attending the event, the colleagues from Ukraine and Romania expressed their readiness to share their experience with the water supplier of Chisinau.
