Minister of Health Ruxanda Glavan assures that the flu situation is under control. She developed the issue in the February 21 edition of the talk show “Reply” produced by Prime TV channel, IPN reports.
“This is seasonal flu and we have such a phenomenon each year. We will see statistics next week and will decide whether to declare an epidemic state or not. On the second week, the number of cases of infection decreased, but it could rise again owing to the warm weather. Anyway, the situation in our country is much better than in Ukraine given that we vaccinated the persons exposed to the risk of catching flu,” stated the minister.
Ruxanda Glavan considers that a part of the blame is borne by the population. “The number of cases of death caused by flu is not so high compared with the number of infections. The ten cases of death happened because the persons went to see a doctor too late. This is due to the low sanitary culture of the population. If they become ill, the people must go to see the family doctor, not wait for their state to worsen,” she said.
The minister also said that the Ministry of Health will lay emphasis on the quality of medical personnel. “We invested in the modernization of hospitals, but didn’t invest in staff. Many of the doctors either went to work abroad or abandoned medicine and work in other areas. The situation became alarming, especially in rural areas. The sum of 30,000 lei allocated to young doctors who go to work in villages is no longer attractive,” stated Ruxanda Glavan.
