Russia’s invasion in Ukraine is dangerous for Moldova as well, experts

Russia’s invasion in southeastern Ukraine is dangerous for the geopolitical security, including for Moldova. Such an opinion was stated in the program “Place for dialogue” on the public radio station “Radio Moldova”, IPN reports.

According to politologist Vasile Croitoru, the war in Ukraine entered the hottest phase, while the Kremlin’s project “Novorossia” is under implementation. “The existence of the Ukrainian state is tested. Together with it, it is tested the security of the whole region, including of Moldova,” he stated.

Vasile Croitoru considers the Russian soldiers will not stop in Donetsk as they were ordered to go further and open a ground corridor up to Odessa, from where they will reach Transnistria. “The fact that Putin called his soldiers in Ukraine ‘combatants of Novorossia” reveals his intentions,” said the politologist.

Mihai Turcanu, project coordinator at the NATO Information and Documentation Center, in the same program said it is rather improbable that NATO will intervene in Ukraine as such intervention could cause a new world war. “We should not forget that 28 states form part of NATO. It’s not excluded that such neighboring states as Belarus and Moldova will also enter the war if the area of the conflict extends,” he stated.
