A number of Russian and Ukrainian citizens were expelled from Moldova and declared undesirable after the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Security and Information Serviced determined that they took part in the preparation of actions aimed at destabilizing the sociopolitical situation and became illegally involved in the election campaign, IPN reports.
As a result of the taken special investigations measures and the performed searches and after questioning witnesses and suspects, prosecutors and officers of the Security and Information Service established that the suspects managed financial resources whose origin is doubtful, prepared misinforming advertising materials of a subversive character, recruited people for holding meetings and provided informational and organizational assistance to persons and organizations involved in sociopolitical activities. At the places where the foreigners lived, there were found US$18,000, 30,000 lei and checks for about 100,000 lei whose origin could not be proven.
In order to prevent similar actions and eliminate the risks threatening public order and security, on November 17 the given persons were declared undesirable on Moldova’s territory and were expelled to Ukraine and Russia. The competent bodies of the two states were informed about the expulsion. The expelled persons will be unable to enter Moldova until the restrictions are not lifted.
The Moldovans involved in the investigated activities were not put under arrest. The investigation goes on. The results will be communicated also to the Central Election Commission so that it pronounces on the issue in accordance with the electoral legislation.
