The Press Council of the Russian Federation warned the TV channel “Pevyi Kanal” (“First Channel”) after the Press Council of Moldova filed a complaint against the program “Let them talk” and its presenter Andrei Malahov in connection with the program of September 24, 2012 that involved Moldovan minors. Press Council head Ludmila Andronic has told Info-Prim Neo that the generally accepted ethical and deontological professional norms that oblige the journalists to defend the rights and dignity of the minors have been violated. In the program “Let them talk” of September 24, 2012, there was discussed an incident that happened in a village in Floresti district, where a teen was beaten and humiliated by a girl and her friends, while the filmed scenes of the degrading treatment were published on the Internet. The underage participants in this incident were invited to take part in the program, where they were asked to relate what happened and to answer the questions. Ludmila Andronic said the decision taken by the Russian colleagues was the one expected by the Press Council of Moldova. The Russian colleagues reacted promptly to the complaint from Moldova and admitted that the identified violations were indeed committed. According to her, it is for the first time that a TV channel in a CIS state is warned following a complaint filed by the Press Council of another state.
