Russian Orthodox Church highly appreciates Voronin’s support to Moldovan Orthodox Church

The Russian Orthodox Church highly appreciates the support provided by President Vladimir Voronin to the Orthodox Church in Moldova, which is a an autonomous component of the Patriarchate of Moscow in the person of His Holiness Metropolitan Bishop Vladimir, said Patriarch Alexy II at the end of a meeting with the Moldovan president, the presidential press service informs, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. According to the cited source, Aleksy II noted that while the President of Moldova, Vladimir Voronin has significantly contributed to the revival of the moral and spiritual values of the society and of the Orthodox Church, which was subjected to destruction in the period when the faith in God was condemned, the distinction “For remarkable efforts in strengthening the unity of Orthodox peoples” conferred on President Voronin speaks for itself. Voronin stated for his part that all that has been done and is being done in the name of the Orthodox Church’s revival, in the name of strengthening and promoting spirituality among the citizens of the country, is an undisputable factor for increasing stability and developing the society on the whole. The unity of the people with the Church fosters peace and mutual understanding in our country, said Vladimir Voronin. Asked by a Russian reporter to comment on the argument between the Metropolitan Church of Bessarabia and the Metropolitan Church of Chisinau and Entire Moldova, Patriarch Alexy II stated the intention of the Romanian Church to open dioceses in Moldova run counter to the canon law and represents interference in the space of an autonomous Orthodox church.
