Russian official displeased with Parliamentary Committee’s “European Integration” title

A Russian official is displeased with the title “European Integration” of the Parliamentary Committee of Moldova for Foreign Policy and European Integration. “If instead of the words “European Integration”, would be “for relations with Russia or CIS”, Moscow would trust Moldova more, Nicolae Pavlov, the member of Russia’s State Committee of for Security told the Interparliamentary Committee for Cooperation between the Russian Federal Assembly and the Parliament of Moldova on Wednesday, March 21. According to the Russian MP, the present name makes “colleagues suspicious” about the fact that Moldova could vote, as in the case of Georgia, for the accession to NATO. In this context, Pavlov warned that the “gas is not coming from Germany, but from Russia”. “Our friends from Central Asia know about this fact and showed the Americans the door. We see that they (Americans) continue to expand everywhere, which worries us”, he said. According to the cited source, Russia is worried about the direction of Moldova and its prospects. “If we’ll be friends, Russia is ready to support Moldova, but if Moldova will move “in two directions” – like Georgia – then it’s the opposite”, Pavlov concluded. The delegation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation includes MPs, members of the factions “Edinaia Rossia”, Communist Party of the Russian Federation, Liberal Democrat Party of Russia, and other parliamentary factions. The members of the delegations met with high officials of Moldova, including the head of state.
