Russian gas hasn't reached Moldova

24 hours after Russian concern Gazprom announced the resumption of gas supply through Ukraine to Moldova, Turkey and the Balkans on Tuesday morning, none of it has reached Moldova. “The gas which the Russians released yesterday at 9:00AM (local time) has not yet reached the Republic of Moldova”, Vasile Cernei, PR department head at Moldovagaz, told the agency Info-Prim Neo. “There's no gas in stocks. We burn the gas which the Ukrainians are supplying from their own reserves”, added Cernei. According to him, the volume of gas delivered by Ukraine doesn't fully cover the demand for gas of household consumers. Cernei said he wasn't updated on the current levels of pressure in Moldova's gas pipes. He also didn't say whether any gas was expected from Russia at all. Gazprom opened gas valves on January 13 in the morning, but several ours later it was reported that Ukraine had blocked the flow of gas westward. Kiev denied the allegations, saying Russia itself had failed to provide the necessary volumes of gas for it to be pumped onward.
