A feature report of the Rossia1 brand, broadcast last week during the synthesis program of Kiselev, tries to show how bad is for such states as Romania to get along with the Europeans and Americans, notes the sic! project in a new article. The authors remind that Rossia1 is the second most watched TV channel in Moldova, IPN reports.
According to the authors of sic!, the feature is a fragment from a broader documentary entitled “European trap”, which was made by Alexandr Rogatkin. “Our neighbor from over the Prut is presented as a poor country that was negatively affected by the entry into the European Union and whose population lives in poverty even in the capital city, while the NATO military base in Deveselu is said to be limiting the freedom of locals”.
The feature begins by asserting that the telephone network in Deveselu was brought to its knees after the NATO base was opened there. “A simple search on Google shows that things do not really stand like this: the General Urbanistic Plan of Deveselu shows that the commune is crossed by a buried optic network that ensures a high quality of communications and considerably reduces the risk of deterioration,” says the sic! article.
According to the authors, the criticism leveled at Romania within the feature on Rossia1 comes after an Antimissile Shield was inaugurated in Deveselu on May 12, 2016. Though Romania assures that this system is intended for defense and is not an attack on the integrity of any country, including Russia, the latter sees it as a direct threat. “Surely, the dispute attains another dimension in the new geopolitical context, which includes the Ukrainian crisis in Donbas and all the consequences of the deterioration in the relations between the U.S., the EU and the Russian Federation.”
“After the commune Deveselu, reporter Alexandr Rogatkin quotes ex-Romanian President Basescu as saying that the country’s GDP rose 7-8 times compared with that of the Republic of Moldova after Romania became part of the EU. However, the quotation was included only for the purpose of presenting later the so-called contrary proof, more exactly the quarter from near the central market of Bucharest, which is described as being representative not only for Bucharest, but also for the whole Romanian state,” says the article.
“Moreover, Alexandr Rogatkin explains that the poverty of those who live in ghettoes is due to the failure of the European integration, forgetting to mention, for example, the Moscow quarter Golianovo, which is placed as the third most dangerous quarter by Huffington Post and the first by analysts of Russian Research Group.”
The authors of the article also say that the feature is not very different from others shown on the Russian TV channels presenting ‘realities’ in other countries that pursue a pro-West or pro-NATO policy. “This is how journalism works in Russia and such features are watched by the whole population of the Republic of Moldova. The people look and draw conclusions. The TV channel that retransmits the Russian channel “Pervyi Kanal” (“First Channel”), which is financed by the Government of Russia, is the most popular channel in Moldova. This covers over 96% of the country’s territory. Rossia1, headed by Kiselev, is the second most popular TV channel.”
