Russian Embassy regrets tragic incident at peacekeeping post
The Russian Embassy expresses its regret at the tragic incident that happened at the peacekeeping posts near Vadul lui Voda, where a young man from Pirita was shot fatally, and offers its condolences to the man’s family. In a communiqué, the Embassy says it will follow how the investigation is conducted and expresses its conviction that the circumstances of the incident will be examined thoroughly, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“I’m sure that all the circumstances of this case will be taken into account, including the fact that the victim flagrantly violated the post crossing rules, was inebriated and drove a car that did not belong to him. There was also a risk that the man could drive over one of the military men. He damaged the safety barrier and did not stop even when warning shots were fired,” Russian Ambassador Valery Kuzmi said after a meeting with Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca and Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Karpov on January 2.
The Russian diplomat voiced hope that the incident will not lead to a tenser situation in the Security Zone. “Such a development should be avoided so as to ensure the progress in the recently reopened Transnistrian conflict settlement talks in the 5+2 format,” said Valery Kuzmin.
The incident occurred in the morning of January 1. Vadim Pisari died in the hospital one hour after he was operated.
