A consulate of the Russian Federation in Balti will be opened only after an official request to this effect is submitted. The statement was made by Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Iurie Leanca at a talk-show on Moldova 1 TV, Info-Prim Neo reports. As regards the opening of a Russian consulate in Tiraspol, Iurie Leanca said that such a consulate could be opened only after some conditions and criteria are met. It all depends on how things develop and afterwards a rational analysis will be conducted and we’ll take a decision. Deputy Prime Minister Dmitri Rogozin told the Russian press that two edifices had already been identified in Tiraspol to be prepared for the consulate. Iurie Leanca said that he was unaware about it and regardless of this, the Russian consulate can be opened only with the Chisinau’s consent. Political analyst Anatol Taranu said that Russia could open a pseudo-consulate in Tiraspol even without the consent of the Chisinau authorities. Oazu Nantoi, expert in the Transnistrian issue, thinks that Moldovan authorities don’t strengthen enough their capacities in the bilateral dialogue with Russia. He said that such a consolidation was needed both from authorities and from society as a whole. On November 16, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitri Rogozin visited Chisinau to negotiate with the Moldovan authorities the opening of a Russian consulate in Balti. As regards the opening of a consulate in Tiraspol, the officials agreed to continue discussions.
