Russian and Ukrainian experts inspect arms depot in Colbasna

The issue of the arms depot in Colbasna may be again raised when the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks are resumed, Russian Ambassador in Chisinau Valery Kuzmin said in a press briefing on February 1, when asked by Info-Prim Neo's reporter to provide details about the recent visit to this depot. “Let's hope the events that will take place in Moldova in the near future will make the resumption of the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks possible and we will then see what we can do,” the Russian diplomat said. The Russian Embassy in Chisinau Monday issued a press statement, saying Russian and Ukrainian experts on January 26 paid a visit to the arms depots in Transnistria's Colbasna. According to the Embassy, the visit was made in accordance with the agreements singed in 2010 during the meetings of the so-called international cooperation subcommittees of the Russian-Ukrainian intergovernmental commission, and was aimed at examining the state of the arms and how they are kept. The experts reached the conclusion that the arms are fully secure. Asked why representatives of the Joint Control Commission were not invited to go to Colbasna, the Russian ambassador said it was not the case as the village is not situated in the Security Zone and the matter was not within the Commission's area of competence.
