Russian Ambassador: We need to intensify dialogue

The Russian Federation is interested in deepening cooperation and intensifying dialogue with Moldova in all areas, including the Transnistrian issue. The statement was made by Russian Ambassador to Moldova Farid Muhamedshin during his meeting with Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov, Info-Prim Neo learned from a press release of the Reintegration Bureau. Carpov and Muhamedshin discussed the progress of negotiations in the 5+2 format, confidence building measures between the two sides of the Nistru, freedom of movement and other issues. Eugen Carpov pleaded for deepening dialogue between the two countries according to the Basic Moldovan-Russian Treaty and other bilateral documents in effect, so that a sustainable solution to the Transnistrian conflict which respects Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity could be found as soon as possible. As regards the peacekeeping mission on the Nistru, Eugen Carpov said that after 20 years since its foundation, the mission should contribute to getting the two banks closer and to promote post-conflict rehabilitation processes, to restore the previously existing links in all the fields, to reconcile the people throughout the whole country.
