Russia wins Eurovision
Russian singer Dima Bilan has won the 52nd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest held in the Serbian capital of Belgrade on May 24, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Bilan is one of Russia's biggest pop stars and his heartfelt ballad Believe gave Russia its first ever Eurovision win. Dima Bilan won with a stage show that included Olympic figure skating champion Evgeni Plushenko performing on a small ice circle and the violin player Edvin Marton. Dima Bilan scored 272 points, eight of which offered by Moldova.
Ukraine's Ani Lorak came second with her energetic disco track Shady Lady, scoring 230 points. Ani Lorak is a Moldovan native of Cernauti region. The Moldovan public gave her 10 points.
Romania’s representatives Nico and Vlad Mirita finished the 20th out of 25 with 47 points. They received 12 points only from Spain and Moldova. Critics say that Romania’s song was good, but not typical for such a competition.
Greece’s Kalomira accumulated 218 points, Sirusho from Armenia – 199, Maria from Norway – 182, Jelena Tomasevic feat Bora Dugic from Serbia – 160, Delm from Turkey - 137, Elnur & Samir from Azerbaijan -132, Boaz from Israel – 124, Laka from Bosnia & Herzegovina – 110, Pirates Of The Sea from Lithuania – 83, Diana Gurtskaya who represented Georgia – 83. The UK, Germany and Poland finished the last with only 14 points.
Forty-three countries took part in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, a record number of competitors. Only 25 countries entered the final. Eurovision 2009 will take place in Moscow.
