Poland called on Russia to pull out from Crimea within ten days and not to use the armed forces from the separatist Transnistrian region of Moldova for escalating the situation. Otherwise, the EU will be asked to impose severe sanctions against Russia, stated Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, the News and Analyses Agency “Karadeniz press” reported, quoted by IPN.
According to the official, it is now the moment to test the unity of the European Union and NATO. World War II also started on the pretext of protecting the ethnic minorities.
Earlier this month, Russia dispatched troops to the Crimean peninsula, arguing the Russian citizens there must be protected from the pressure that will be exerted by the new Ukrainian government. Afterward, it was reported that several hundred agents of Russia’s special services were brought to Moldova’s Transnistrian region.
On March 21, the Russian State Duma will examine a bill that enables Crimea to become part of the Russian Federation. The bill provides that a region can ask to join Russia after a referendum and in the absence of sovereign state administration.
