Russia rejects accusations over drones in southern Moldova

The Russian Federation has denied accusations from Chisinau regarding drones that fell on Moldovan territory. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova suggested the incident could be a provocation.

“There are two possible explanations. First, the drones may have been moved from the front line into Moldova, potentially as a provocation by the Kyiv regime. Secondly, they may have fallen after being intercepted by Ukraine while targeting Ukrainian military infrastructure,” Zakharova stated.

Two drones were discovered yesterday in southern Moldova. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the head of the Russian diplomatic mission in Chisinau, expressing a strong protest against these “unacceptable violations” and emphasizing that such incidents pose a serious threat to Moldova's national security and its citizens.

In response, the Moldovan Foreign Ministry announced a unilateral withdrawal from the 1998 Moldova–Russia Intergovernmental Agreement on the operation of cultural centers. As a result, the Russian Cultural Center in Chisinau will cease operations.
