Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin openly warned Moldova about the Association Agreement with the EU. “The administration decided that the county will go towards Europe and thus the Moldovans working in Russia will be affected. We warn you directly that the consequences will be serious, if Moldova signs the Association Agreement with the European Union,” Rogozin said during his visit to Tiraspol, IPN reports.
Dmitry Rogozin underlined that the Russian side is totally dissatisfied with the fact that the Transnistrian administration isn’t invited to a dialog on the association with the EU.
“We are categorically against not involving Transnistria in this process. This can lead to an economic blockade for the region. Russia will act in order to ensure normal conditions for the residents of the region,” stated Dmitry Rogozin.
He recommended the Moldovan authorities to sign the Association Agreement with the EU after this autumn’s parliamentary elections so as to avoid the imposition of tougher conditions on the Moldovans working in Russia.
Earlier, the Moldovan administration expressed its dissatisfaction with the fact that the Russian Deputy Prime Minister, who is the Russian President’s representative for the Transnistrian region, didn’t coordinate his visit to Moldova, in accordance with the international diplomatic norms. Russia’s Ambassador in Chisinau Farid Muhamedshin, who was summoned to the Moldovan Foreign Ministry to provide explanations, said Rogozin is paying a private visit. Moldova’s Transnistrian region is managed by a pro-Russian separatist regime.
