Russia makes effort to resolve Transnistrian dispute, Valery Kuzmin
Russia has made sufficient attempts to solve the Transnistrian conflict. The Russian troops act as peacekeepers in the Transnistrian region and this is one of the most successful operations in the last few years. The accusations that Russia abusively occupied the Transnistrian territory and makes pressure on the official Chisinau, made by Moldovan political forces, are groundless. The statements were made by Russian Ambassador in Chisinau Valery Kuzmin, Info-Prim Neo reports.
During a civil forum themed “Moldovan statehood and democracy after overcoming the political crisis. The future of the Moldovan-Russian relations” that was held in Chisinau on Monday, the diplomat said that the plan for settling the Transnistrian dispute was not signed owing to Moldova's inconsistent position.
According to the Russian ambassador, the development of the bilateral commercial and economic relations is hindered by the fact that the Moldovan administration, both the present and the previous one, avoided reaching agreements as regards the opening of a Russian consulate in Transnistria, which would be administered by the Russian Embassy working in Chisinau. This position, said Valery Kuzmin, is different from that on the Romanian consulates, which have been opened in Moldovan settlements that are of strategic importance for the partners.
Valery Kuzmin said Russia cannot be blamed for the non-resolution of the Transnistrian dispute as it continued to make effort to restore the diplomatic dialogue to settle the conflict.
The Ambassador also said that Russia is ready to consider the possibility of transforming the peacekeeping mission into a multinational civilly-mandated one so as to identify a political solution to the Transnistrian dispute.
