Russia is among countries that spy on its citizens the most
The Germans and Canadians are the least spied-on citizens, while the British alongside with the Chinese and Russian people are supervised almost nonstop.
The Privacy International NGO, a watchdog on surveillance and privacy invasions by governments and corporations, arrived at this conclusion.
A ranking including 36 countries, 25 member states of EU ranging among them, produced in accordance with a series of indicators that define a free society, shows that the worst ranking EU country is the United Kingdom, which fell into the “black” category along with Singapore and Russia. The black category defines countries demonstrating “endemic surveillance”. The extraordinary pressure on the privacy safeguards is explained by the technological advance and the globalization of information.
The United States, Israel, New Zeeland and Australia are among the states that form the second group that are spied on a large scale. They are followed by the countries from the European Union from which you would not expect to intercept telephone conversations and to develop a strict system for monitoring the individuals. They are Sweden, Holland, Slovenia, Spain, Lithuania, Slovakia, Ireland and the Czech Republic.
Although they are not ranging among the first two groups, Greece, Hungary and Poland are also part of the countries where the interception of the telephone conversations is introduced in the agenda.
Germany, Austria and Belgium counterbalance the situation, ranging as countries where the constitutional rights of the citizens, including the right to intimacy, are fully respected. On the American continent, Canada is the country that completes this group.
In Hungary, France, Poland, Cyprus, Portugal, Ireland, Malta, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Luxemburg, Italy and Finland, the private intimacy is safeguarded to a certain extent, but its protection by the authorities leaves much to be desired. Romania and Moldova were not subjected to study by the Privacy International.
