Russia is openly attacking the entire energy infrastructure of Ukraine to create maximum difficulties for Ukrainians in terms of electricity and heat supply during the winter, says Mykhailo Podolyak, adviser to President Volodymyr Zelensky.
According to Podolyak, the winter will be hard, and the consequences will be felt not only by Ukraine, which pays the most dearly anyway, but also by the whole of Europe, which for too long did not oppose Russia’s attempt to build an energy monopoly.
“Today we see the peak of two fights waged by Russia, an energy war against Europe, and another one targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. This is because they want not only Ukraine to feel the shortage of electricity and heat supply. We provide a large volume of electricity to the European grid. Russia wants to limit the supply of gas and electricity to Europe, thus scaring Europeans, lowering their standard of living”, Mykhailo Podolyak told Moldova 1.
In his opinion, the goal is to make Europeans put pressure on their governments to halt support for Ukraine, and thus force it to sit down at the negotiating table so that Russia could win this war. The authorities in Kyiv are making maximum efforts to restore the energy infrastructure. “We will stay in the dark, but we have a consensus and we cannot admit that Ukraine will lose this war, because otherwise Ukraine will no longer exist as a state”, said the presidential adviser.
Mykhailo Podolyak added that Russia mined certain areas to cause the explosion of dams, and as a result to flood regions of Kherson, despite the fact that there are many people there. In this way they want to prevent the access of Ukrainian military forces.
