Ukraine’s decision to ban entry for motor vehicles with Transnistrian numbers is a revolting step that affects the interests of all the inhabitants of the region, including the interests of tens of thousands of Ukrainian citizens, said the spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Maria Zakharova. According to her, the blocking measures taken by Kiev in relation to the Transnistrian region will have a direct negative impact on the Transnistrian settlement process, IPN reports.
In a comment, Maria Zakharova said the restriction imposed by Ukraine will nullify all the efforts to restore the positive dynamics of the Transnistrian settlement process. “By such actions, Ukraine fully discredits itself as a guarantor and mediator in the permanent dialogue on political matters within the Transnistrian settlement process in the “5+2” format,” stated the Russian official.
The Russian Federation calls on Kiev to strictly obey its international commitments concerning the human rights and freedoms and urges the international organizations, primarily the European Union, to objectively assess Ukrainian authorities’ actions.
Starting with September 1, the Transnistrian vehicles have access to Ukraine only if they have neutral-design license plates. The Moldovan authorities asked to put off the measure until January 10, 2022. No response has come for now.
