Ruslan Popa: Communist Reformist Party will enter Parliament or will be liquidated

The Communist Reformist Party will either enter Parliament or will be liquidated if it polls fewer than 20,000 votes in the November 30 legislative elections, the party’s chairman Ruslan Popa said in the program “Fourth power” on N4 TV channel, IPN reports.

The leader of the Reformist Communists considers their party will enter Parliament, but, if the people consider that they do not deserve to hold seats of MP and that new parties are not needed, they can remain with Vladimir Voronin then.

Ruslan Popa is convinced that the Communist Reformist Party will pass the election threshold. Revealing the results of an internal poll, he said that the Communist Party and the Liberal Democratic Party will enter Parliament together with them after the November 30 elections. The chances of the Liberal Party are 50:50, while the Democratic Party will fail to enter the legislative body owing to the inclusion of Vlad Plahotniuc on this party’s list of candidates under No. 2. The Party of Socialists will pass the election threshold if a video with Igor Dodon is not made public. “I possess information that a film showing how Igor Dodon takes money to vote for Timofti as head of state will be broadcast the coming days. If this video is shown, Dodon has no chances as the voters will not forgive such betrayal,” he said.

The politician also said that the Communists wants to discredit the Reformist Communists as they are afraid of competition, but their popular approval rating decreased because they didn’t fulfill their electoral promises and didn’t have a firm position. “In 2001, they said they wanted Moldova to join the Russia – Belarus Union. Afterward, they pleaded for joining the EU and then for joining the Customs Union. The people who vote for the Communists are faithful and do not forgive. As far as I know, more than 7,000 members left the Communist Party,” he stated.

As to the Communists’ accusation that they use an emblem similar to theirs, Ruslan Popa said that Voronin transformed the hammer and sickle into a commercial brand, but they are in fact the symbol of the workers and peasants. More Communists in the world use the hammer and sickle as their symbol and Voronin cannot ban them from doing this.
