Ruslan Codreanu, who was not admitted to the electoral race as an independent candidate for the position of mayor of the capital, argued that it is not possible to disqualify ten thousand people that support him. He hopes that today, October 10, the Supreme Court of Justice will take into account all the presented arguments in the Court of Appeal and "will end this chaos and will rule in favour of the people".

In a press conference, Ruslan Codreanu stated that he had previously decided to independently run and set up a ten thousand signature collection campaign over the course of two weeks. However, the members of the electoral bodies disregarded the signatures. The candidate filed a lawsuit after the refusal of the Chișinău Municipal Electoral Council to register him in the election.

"Even the first instance court disregarded the Electoral Code and the regulations of electoral bodies. The court ruled against us, without even examining the subscription lists. We appealed the decision and the Court of Appeal panel of judges ruled in our favour after checking the subscription lists. We proved the validity of each signature of the 797 signatures received in the suburbs”, said Ruslan Codreanu.

The mayoral hopeful said that he hoped that "this sad story was going to end yesterday" by the decision of the Court of Appeal, which is final. However, the Electoral Council and the Central Electoral Commission have appealed the decision to the CSJ. "The most disturbing fact is that so far, CEC representatives did not come to court in the first two instances, even though they were invited". "After a two week absence in both courts, yesterday, the CEC filed an appeal with the Supreme Court of Justice”, Ruslan Codreanu said.

Two weeks ago, the Chișinău Municipal Electoral District Council refused to register Ruslan Codreanu in the electoral race for the capital's mayoralty. The Council invalidated 1200 of the 10454 signatures presented by Ruslan Codreanu.
