Ruling coalition to convene July 2

The Alliance for European Integration will come together for a meeting on July 2 to discuss the agenda of the parliamentary sitting where Acting President Mihai Ghimpu will speak about the historical, political and juridical assessments of the repressions of the totalitarian Communist regime in Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. The report of the commission that studied the totalitarian Communist regime was to be presented at a special sitting of the Parliament on June 28, when it was 70 years of the day when Bessarabia became a component part of the USSR. The sitting did not take place because three leaders of the Alliance invoked that the agenda had not been discussed by the Parliament's Standing Bureau. The presidential decree declaring June 28 as the Soviet Occupation Day was another reason for dissension inside the Alliance. Earlier this week, Prime Minister Vlad Filat, who heads the Liberal Democratic Party, said the Alliance must have a common position on the commission's report. The leader of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu said the report must not necessarily be discussed in Parliament as the commission was set up by presidential decree. On the other hand, the members of the commission expect that the politicians will show political maturity and say the report that is to be rendered reveals the historical truth. Asked if the Communist faction will take part in the meeting where Mihai Ghimpu will deliver his speech, the leader of the Communists Party Vladimir Voronin said it will not. “We work very well without them as they rest very well without us. We should not interfere in each other's business,” Mihai Ghimpu stated in this connection.
