Private individuals have the right to take jewels made from precious stones and metals into or out of the Republic of Moldova in the amount of up to five units, regardless of their value, without paying customs duties, on condition that these are not homogenous. Also, items from precious stones and metals that are not intended for commercial or production activities can be brought into Moldova on condition that these are declared and import duties are paid on them, IPN reports.

In a response to an inquiry by IPN, the Customs Service says private individuals can take out of the county articles from precious stones and metals whose value in the customs does not exceed €10,000 and which are not intended for commercial or production activities, on condition that these are declared and export duties are paid on them. If their value is higher than €10,000, the private individuals, besides paying export duties, must also present to the customs body an authorization issued by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Culture, whereby their cost and the fact that they are not cultural values are confirmed.

The objects from precious stones and metals, including those sent through international mail parcels or unaccompanied baggage, which are intended for commercial or production activities and whose value in the customs does not exceed €1,000, can be taken out of the country on condition that the economic policy rules are obeyed, export duties are paid and these are declared in accordance with the law.

As regards cultural values, the private individuals can bring these into the country on condition that the authorization issued by the competent authority of the sending state is presented to the customs body by obeying the economic policy rules, paying export duties and declaring these in accordance with the law.

Private individuals cannot take cultural values out of Moldova. Other values from the fields of arts, literature, science, culture and religion can be taken out of the country on condition that an authorization issued by the Ministry of Culture of Moldova, whereby their cost and the fact that they are not cultural values are confirmed, is presented to the customs body.
