The three-day ultra-marathon Rubicon begins in Moldova today, February 19. As many as 200 athletes from all over the county will make their running start from the most southern point of the country – the main square of Giurgiulești village. The competitors will run 504 km from southern Moldova to the northern part, crossing 12 western districts, IPN reports.

According to a press release of sporter.md, the relay race will last for 54 hours and 42 minutes. The route was divided into 42 stages and each stage will involve a small group of runners. For each of the covered stages, the participants obtain insignias in the form of the district’s symbol. The runners who cover several stages become winners and are awarded. The runners will come to the finish line in Briceni town on February 21. The detailed map of the route can be found online.

Rubicon is a running event with a unique format for Moldova. As it lasts for three days, the competition is a real challenge for all those called ultra-marathon runners.
