The final stage of the relay race Rubicon, which lasted for three years, is over. The athletes crossed the finish line in Giurgiulești village. During February 1-3, 125 professional athletes and amateurs ran through all the western districts of Moldova, covering a distance of 540.3 km. The competition started in Briceni town and the race lasted for 58 hours and 47 minutes, IPN reports.
All the stages of the ultramarathon were covered during three years. The participants collected all the insignias and coats of arms of Moldova’s districts and the Rubicon was crossed. The organizers said the relay race Rubicon 2019 was the longest in the series. In 2017, the participants ran 463 km through the eastern districts of Moldova, including the Transition region. The race through central Moldova staged in 2018 was 502 km long. This year the participants covered 540.3 km and the race embraced the districts of Briceni, Edineț, Râșcani, Glodeni, Fălești, Ungheni, Nisporeni, Hâncești, Leova, Cantemir, Cahul and Vulcănești.
In the near future, the organizers of the Rubicon ultramarathon will present the results of the race for each year and will announce the winners – the participants who managed to collect the largest number of insignias and coats of arms. According to the preliminary results, the winners among men are Vitali Clopot 259.9 km (21 stages), Artiom Reshetnikov 238.1 km (18 stages) and Fiodor Evstigneev 214.5 km (17 stages). Among women, the best were Alexandra Brinzari 181 km (15 stages), Tatiana Golodenko 158.6 km (13 stages) and Victoria Trofimova 157,4 km (13 stages).
The Rubicon 2019 ultramarathon was organized by the public sports organization Sporter and the free announcements website 999.md.
