The e-ticketing system in the public transport of the municipality of Chisinau will start to be tested in the middle of March. This will be piloted in 90 trolleybuses running on routes No. 10, 22, 30, 32 and on 46 buses running on routes No. 2, 5, 9, 19, 26 and 33, IPN reports.

A meeting with all the officials in charge will be held this week to examine a number of scenarios so as to embrace the people who have season tickets and those who benefit from concessions on trips by public transport, said Mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban.

The pilot project will last for six months and is implemented in cooperation with MasterCard and VISA. The General Public Transport and Communications Division, the Chisinau Electric Transport Company and the Urban Bus Company will sign contracts with service operators.

A consulting firm was chosen to collect data about the utilization of public transport by passengers. The information will be transmitted to a company that was contracted by the EBRD to complete the feasibility study for implementing e-ticketing.
