Rosian Vasiloi: 38 border police officers are waiting for sentences

The head of the Border Police said that 38 border police officers are waiting for court judgments for illegalities committed on the job. Rosian Vasiloi said that since he took over, he has laid emphasis on the prevention of acts of corruption among employees by ensuring decent salaries and improving working conditions, IPN reports.

The Border Police chief noted that a number of his colleagues who were involved in acts of corruption and influence peddling are investigated and were suspended from posts. Effort is being made to improve the working conditions and raise salaries so as to discourage acts of cooption among employees.

“Currently, 38 border police officers are waiting for their sentences as the cases were already sent to court or they were suspended from posts by the Prosecutor’s Office because investigation measures are being taken. We now focus on the prevention of such cases and on the motivating of the personnel by aspects related to social protection, decent salaries, decent working conditions,” Rosian Vasiloi stated in a special edition on the public TV channel.

The head of the Border Police said their institution aims to create an employee reward fund so that the border police and customs officers could be remunerated for identifying smuggling attempts.

“A relevant proposal was formulated, but a number of bills were put off when the war started as we focused on the management of the refugee crisis. As this year was declared the Year of the Border Police, we will do our best for this mechanism to become functional,” he stated.

As regards the crossing of the state border by Ukrainian citizens, the Border Police said that 8,112 Ukrainians crossed the border during May 23-24, with 3,870 of these entering Moldova. Out of these, 1,390 were minor Ukrainian citizens.
