Last year Moldova imported 2.8 million roses, mainly from Columbia and Ecuador. This is almost by a million more than chrysanthemums (1.9 million pieces), which are brought in Moldova from the Netherlands and Ecuador, the National Statistics Bureau posted on FB.
The third most popular imported flowers are carnations. Last year, we imported 1.4 million pieces, mainly from Turkey and Columbia.
Whereas imports of roses and chrysanthemums rose in 2018 by about 400,000 compared with 2016, in the case of carnations imports dropped by about 300,000.
Last year Moldova also imported about 41,000 lilies, mainly from the Netherlands and Ecuador, and 17,000 orchids, from the Netherlands and Thailand.
Most flowers were imported in February, to a total value of $0.9 million dollars, and the least in June, totalling $0.1 million.
