Romania’s Premier tenders resignation

The Prime Minister of Romania Victor Ponta resigned on November 4 after about 30,000 people marched through Bucharest, demanding that he and other high-ranking officials should vacate their seats. These blamed the officials for the October 30 nightclub fire that claimed over 30 lives and injured another about 100 persons, IPN reports.

After the tragedy in Colectiv nightclub, tens of thousands of Romanians took to the streets in the evening of November 3, demanding that Victor Ponta, Bucharest sector mayor Cristian Popescu Piedone and Minister of the Interior Gabriel Oprea tender their resignation.

Victor Ponta was one of the main Romanian politicians who supported the provision of the loan of €150 million to Moldova. The former Premier said yet that the money will not be disbursed if an anti-European pro-Russian government is formed in Chisinau.
