Romania’s Parliament supports and asks to grant the EU candidate status to the Republic of Moldova at the upcoming meeting of the European Council, said the President of the Chamber of Deputies Ion-Marcel Ciolacu. In the joint meeting of the Parliaments of the Republic of Moldova and Romania that is held in Chisinau, the official said that Romania not only recognizes the European destiny of the Republic of Moldova, but wants and believes in a real EU accession perspective for Moldova, IPN reports.
“You are at a unique moment from historical viewpoint in terms of the perspectives and development opportunities of the Republic of Moldova. A lot of work is yet to be done – a long road to be covered. But today you have the chance to take the destiny in your hands and to work day by day for the children who are born today to live in a really European Republic of Moldova,” noted Ion-Marcel Ciolacu.
The President of the Chamber of Deputies said that Romania’s Parliament wants to extend the commercial and economic partnerships so as to permit broader access to the common European market and to this way ensure the accelerated development of the Republic of Moldova. “Romania and the Republic of Moldova form part of the same community that is built on the common history, culture and language. This is indivisible and inseparable. It is yet time to assume this common destiny by development, including of a common economic and commercial area, and to facilitate the flow of persons. For an entrepreneur, it should be as easy to do business in Chisinau, as it is now in Bucharest,” said Ion-Marcel Ciolacu.
The President of the Senate of Romania Florin-Vasile Cîțu said that today’s event is symbolical and demonstrates the unprecedented openness of the relations between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, the commitment to set a higher ambition level at the bilateral level and Romania’s strong support for the European aspirations of the Republic of Moldova.
“Through today’s joint meeting, the two Parliaments reaffirm the special tie between our countries ensured by the common language, history and culture and by the Bilateral Strategic Partnership for the European integration of the Republic of Moldova. Our bilateral relations currently enjoy a very favorable context. There is now a pro-European and pro-reform majority in the Republic of Moldova, which shows increased political will and takes concrete actions towards the acceleration of the process of transforming and modernizing the country. We should use this opportunity and should offer more substance and solidarity to the strategic partnership relations so that we could advance the bilateral agenda and projects designed to ensure connection with the European Union,” stated the official.
Florin-Vasile Cîțu said Moldova’s future is in the big European family and this is a fundamental desideratum for the Republic of Moldova and also for Romania, in virtue of the past, the values and ideals that unite the two countries.
A statement is to be signed in the first joint meeting of the Parliaments of the Republic of Moldova and Romania. Before the meeting, the delegations of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of Romania led by Presidents Florin-Vasile Cîțu and Ion-Marcel Ciolacu laid flowers at the Monument to Ruler Stephan the Great and Holy in central Chisinau.
