The National Day of Romania started in Moldova with laying of flowers to the monument to Stephan the Great. Officials, young persons and ordinary people from Moldova and Romania came to mark the Union Day and lay flowers in memory of the forerunners. Activities dedicated to the event will be carried out in Chisinau throughout the day, Info-Prim Neo reports. “There is much joy and good mood on Romania's National Day. I wish the Romanians from Moldova good luck, prosperity, freedom and accomplishments,” said Alexandru Muresan, charge d'affaires of the Romanian Embassy in Chisinau. “I do not regret that I'm here today, not in Romania because this is also my home and I do not fell a stranger here.” “It is Romanians' day and I am a Romanian,” said Moldova's Acting President and Head of Parliament Mihai Ghimpu. He wished all the Romanians good health and good relations. Minister of Youth and Sport Ion Cebanu said that all those who consider themselves Romanians and know the history and respect the ancestors and the national values came to the monument today to lay flowers. He said the young people want Moldova to become part of Europe more than anyone else as they wish to live in a civilized Europe. Moldovan young people who study in Romania said Moldova is their home and they want to celebrate this holiday here. Svetlana Popescu, the leader of the Bessarabian Students League in Galati, said that last year the Bessarabian students in Galati celebrated this day in Alba Iulia, but this year they decided to celebrate at home. “Fewer people mark this day in Moldova, probably because it is not a nonworking day here,” Popescu said.
