During the period Romania held the rotating presidency of the European Union Council, over 90 of pieces of legislation were adopted for the future of Europe and all the Europeans, Ambassador Daniel Ioniță stated at an event to present Romania’s achievements during its mandate.
Another highlight of Romania’s EU presidency was the organization of an informal EU Summit in Sibiu on May 9, which was an occasion for EU heads of state and government to reaffirm their commitment to cooperating with partners around the globe. Also, a European Council Meeting was organized on June 20 to establish general priorities for the EU agenda in the next five years.
Consolidating the Eastern Partnership was another top priority on the Romanian presidency’s agenda.
“Romania’s readiness to continue firmly supporting the European course and the necessary reforms in the Republic of Moldova, both at European level and at bilateral level, has been reaffirmed”, the Romanian Embassy said in a press release on this occasion. “Romania stands ready to help Chisinau with fulfilling its commitments assumed in the relationship with the European Union and with communicating Moldova’s achievements in Brussels.”
During the event, Ambassador Ioniță recalled the joint efforts of Romania and Moldova to register the Romanian ia on the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage, underlining that “the traditional Romanian ia is yet another element adding value and strengthening our traditions, language, and history shared with the Republic of Moldova”.
The event was attended by members of the Government, MPs and other high-ranking officials, representatives of the diplomatic corps, academia, the artistic community, and civil society.
