The Ambassador of Romania to Moldova Daniel Ioniță said Romania ranks third in Europe by the number of persons vaccinated against COVID-19 thanks to a very well planned vaccination campaign. The mass vaccination of medical personnel made the Romanian citizens have confidence in the vaccine and follow the example of doctors, IPN reports.

Within the immunization campaign that started in Romania, the doctors were vaccinated the first. The mass immunization of healthcare workers led to an 88% decline in the number of infections with SARS-COV-2 among medical personnel.

“The ordinary citizens, when they saw that their doctors get a vaccine and then can welcome them in their offices with smiles on their faces became more confident. If the doctors hadn’t been vaccinated, everyone would have had the suspicion that the intention was to transform the people into lab mice. 94% of the medical personnel in Romania got a vaccine,” Daniel Ioniță stated in the talk show “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.

According to the diplomat, Moldova should undertake Romania’s experience. The latest polls show only 30% of the population in Moldova would accept to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

“The vaccine is not mandatory. It is a voluntary act. Romania has a national platform where all the citizens can register and schedule an appointment for vaccination. The second vaccination stage is now taking place in Romania. This covers the governmental personnel and older persons,” stated Daniel Ioniță.  

According to the national immunization plan of Moldova, the doctors, personnel and beneficiaries of the social assistance service will be immunized the first. The persons older than 60 and those with comorbidies will be vaccinated at the second stage, while the general population at the third stage.
